Ryman Healthcare CCA Agnes Dick 2020
The 2020 CCA Agnes Dick was held at Elmwood Croquet Club 24 & 25 February.
The tournament was sponsored by Ryman Healthcare.
This is a very friendly and sociable Handicap Doubles Association Croquet Tournament which is regaining its previous popularity. Elmwood again was a very popular venue and the lawns were great. It was very pleasing to see how last year’s beginners had advanced so much. Many thanks to Ryman Healthcare for their continuing sponsorship.

Ryman Healthcare CCA GC Handicap Singles
Sunday 23 February saw the sun shine on the GC Handicap Singles at Fendalton Park Croquet Club.
Lawns were a bit wet to start, thanks to cooling rain the previous evening, but dried up during the day.
There were 8 entries, but two withdrawals meant only 6 players on the day. Competition was a round robin with everyone playing 5 thirteen hoop, untimed games.
There was a great atmosphere and lovely attitude from the players. Competition was close and it was up to the final games to determine the winner.
Winner was Lyn McKinnon from Cashmere, and Runner-up with a one point net hoop difference was Eileen Arnett from St Martins.

Ryman Healthcare CCA GC Grades 2020
This season’s CCA GC Grades were played at St. Martins on Waitangi Day, Thursday 6 February 2020. The lawns were in their best condition for several years, so many thanks to John Borner who is now looking after them.
The 20 entries were split into 3 divisions.
In the Primary division we had 6 entries. Melanie Stevenson won outright with 4/5 closely followed on 3/5 by Lorraine Adam who came second, Jim Hopley 3rd and Carol Tonge 4th.
In the Intermediate division, there were 7 entries. Mark Winter finished unbeaten with Flynn Moses-Jones 2nd on 4/6 ahead on net points from Claire Horncastle who was 3rd.
In the Premier, Josh Winter was unbeaten on 6/6, Levi Franks was runner-up on 5/6 and Myles Duggan 3rd on 4/6.
Many thanks to the St. Martins club for their hospitality. Several players competed with less success than those mentioned above, but still enjoyed their day. Why not try a CCA event yourself?

CCA Don Reyland Stars competition
Four players battled it out on Sunday 9th February for the right to represent the CCA at the national Don Reyland finals at Rose Gardens in Palmerston North 14th and 15th March.
The day started cool and fresh with dew glistening on the lawn, just right for a day of serious croquet. The four players were soon into it and some serious competition followed. The small group of spectators were treated to some great displays of croquet at its best, and the time sped by. Myles Duggan (Cashmere) was the winner, with Cheryl Hopley as runner up. The other two contestants, Linda Humphreys (Fendalton Park) and Maggie Croy (Holmes Park), were worthy competition.

The original post said that Josh had his first ever peg out in the last round. This is incorrect. He pegged out six times in November in the South Island AC Champs.

2. USA is participating, not the Finland
3. The Swedish team practiced at United, not Finland
2021/22 Tournament Convenor’s Report
We had a full competition and tournament season despite Covid disruptions, and overall the weather was kind to us too. It was encouraging to see greater participation from higher handicapped players this last season, a reward for the targeted pre-season coaching.
The Silver Badges were merged into the Grades tournament this year and overall this went well. Participation in the Don Reyland playoffs was much improved this year as a result of more pre-season promotion. The number of Arthur Ross entries was however low as there was little interest in the winner travelling to the national final during Covid restrictions.
The Outcomes section of the Strategic Plan includes a summary of our other activities this last season.
In terms of KPI’s, tournament attendees returned a 93% satisfaction rating.
